Athletes will choose from five food islands: Brazilian, Asian, international, pasta and pizza, halal and kosher. Cordeiro and his colleagues are holding about 20 food tastings before the opening of the Games on 5 August.At its busiest, the Athletes' Village will prepare 60,000 meals daily, from 210,000 kilograms (460,000 pounds) of raw ingredients, all served up on four million biodegradable plates to visitors from Albania to Zambia. Nearly all ingredients will be produced locally with the exception of specific ones like the Korean Kimchi, that nation's famous fermented cabbage, scallions and assorted vegetables, which will be imported.  For those not familiar with Brazil's fruits such as caju, acai, carambola and maracuja, they'll get a chance to dig into 40 varieties of the exotic produce. Rio will also offer different breakfast styles. When the kitchen at the Athlete's Village becomes ready, patrons will enjoy the surroundings of a 23,000-square metre (248,000 square foot) dining tent that includes a 9,000 square metre (97,000 square foot) kitchen.
