STORY-LINE:From virtual reality headsets and wearable devices to drones flying above the crowds, the buzz has begun at Asia's biggest consumer electronics show.The second annual CES (Consumer Electronics Show) Asia - a Chinese version of the popular Las Vegas event – is underway in the  eastern Chinese city of Shanghai.More than 300 companies from 23 different countries are in attendance. Floor space has almost doubled in comparison to last year's debut event, from two halls to four.But even though the event is still in its infancy on the Asian continent, exhibitors think it will just keep on growing.\"I think (CES Asia) is going to be really important in the future,\" says Ken Liu of local robotics company Bubble Lab. \"Because Chinese people all know exactly what the name 'CES' means. CES Las Vegas is really well known in China and in technology circles is the biggest event of the year, so CES Asia will really attract a lot of people.\"Organisers are keen to stress how successful the spin off from the Las Vegas event has been.\"Our first show last year filled two exhibit halls, this show almost filled four,\" says Gary Shapiro, President of the Consumer Technology Association.\"Almost every company that exhibited last year has come back plus many more. We have many major automobile companies, we have major companies in audio, we have entrepreneurs, start-up area for the first time this year, we have expansed, experienced exhibitors in so many different categories including smart-home, drones, virtual reality, there are new categories that are rapidly growing in consumer electronics and technology and companies want to show their wares to the Asia world and that's what we're offering here.\"He adds that despite a slowdown in China's economy generally, this has had little effect on consumer purchasing habits, or the desire of brands to grab a piece of the Chinese market.\"While there may be talk about a China slowdown (in the economy), it's only off this tremendous, almost unsustainable growth number. This is still in the sense of size, the fastest growing economy in the world and that's a good thing and that's what people want and that's what companies want to reach.\" The hugely popular social networking service, Twitter, has a presence here , although it's blocked in China  - something that some visitors regret . Tony Chan says \"I hope that I can one day use Twitter in China. Because I feel that would just be more open and it would be an all-round better experience. But that's just the way it is.\"China's economic growth slowed to a seven-year low of 6.7 percent in the first quarter of this year. Industry analysts say some traditional technology sectors, like smart phones, are feeling the pinch. \"Traditional market might be a bit affected, for example the smart phone market is a bit slowdown, it's slowing down right now,\" says tech industry analyst, Jason Low of Canalys. \"These companies, vendors, local companies in China they are trying to look for a new place to seek for growth. And CES is the best place to find new stuff coming out for the market. And of course you can see opportunities are abundant over here.\"One of those new growth sectors that has everyone's attention at this year's CES is virtual reality.There are dozens of companies showcasing headsets, content, platforms and more. And many of them are home-grown Chinese companies, pointing to a growing technology start-up culture in China.\"If you look at the other spectrum around, smaller (Chinese domestic) companies, start-ups - especially on the VR side - they are catching on. They have improved a lot and they are confident to show it on the show floor. So there is a significant uptick into R\u0026amp;D. They are willing to spend more time, spend more effort. But a part of this development is because they have built up a good relationship with a lot of partners that allow them to do a lot of things that they might not be able to do by themselves.\"Manufacturing and other activity has been lacklustre despite government stimulus efforts which include a boost in bank lending and an easing of controls on real estate sales.Smart cars are also well-represented at CES Asia, with Mercedes, BMW, and US brand Chevrolet all taking up their positions in a dedicated hall for auto manufacturers.
