With the 7-seater car, we can take other family members out together with our kids. This is vital for us. I have some friends who have two children, they are also considering switching to 7-seater cars.\"Nie is not alone.  After China announced an end to its controversial one-child policy last October, families have started to grow larger and their taste in vehicles has begun to grow too.Seven-seater vehicles rolled out by automakers in the past year have enjoyed a boost in popularity.At this year's Beijing Auto Show, German car maker Volkswagen is showing off its Touran L, a new MPV model which specially caters for Chinese customers with options for six seats and seven seats.Japanese auto maker Honda is presenting its new seven-seater Odyssey MPV.Automakers are exhibiting an avalanche of new SUVs ranging from 45,000 yuan ($6,900 USD) compacts to luxurious land yachts with heated seats and video players.Local auto maker Luxsen is showcasing its own seven-seater MPV, hoping to claim a stake of the growing market segment.Auto analysts believe the popularity of MPVs and SUVs reflects the impact of China's new second child policy.\"As we can see from our statistics, MPVs and SUVs that can provide seven seats have gained a sharp rise of attention from customers,\" says auto analyst, Wang Sijie.\"I believe this is related to the 2nd child policy, and the rising living standards and car consumption concept of customers and people want a more colourful life, they want to drive out more for sightseeing… MPVs or SUVs with seven seats can better meet their demands like these.\"Analysts say the appetite for bigger cars is strong in China, where extended families often live under one roof.  Auto giant Ford is hoping to capitalise on that appetite by unveiling this new seven-seater Edge SUV at the auto show.Ford Motor Company president and CEO, Mark Fields, is hoping they'll stand out among the crowd.\"Well, clearly when you have more competition and more competition in a segment, it heats that segment up and causes pressure pretty much overall in a segment in terms of potentially margins and pricing and things of that nature,\" he says.\"That's why we've had a very specific strategy to not only add more products - and in this case SUVs - to our lineup here, but to keep them fresh.\"Sales of SUVs in China soared 52 percent last year, the only product segment still growing in the world's largest market.
