He was arrested in 2012 while leading a tour group to a special economic zone and sentenced to 15 years of hard labour for alleged anti-government activities.While in prison, Bae says he was allowed to read his bible, and watch a few hours of television at night, that was when the labour camp didn't experience power outages. Although he suffered medical issues while in detention, Bae says he was treated as humanely as possible.He said the hardest thing about prison was the isolation. I have no idea until I got to the labour camp to find out. Turned out that I was working in the labour camp farm. And I was doing a lot of farming, and physical hard labour. Carrying around rock, digging the hole and different things. (reporter question: And that was 8 to 10 hours a day?) That's from 8 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock at night. Six days a week.
