This year, we received the least amount of water from the Nile since 1913. The Nile has not been hit by such a strong drought since 1913. Every year, the high dam floods and the water is stored, but this year, the dam could only store one third of its capacity.\"24. Various of the River NileLEADIN:Villages in the Dakahlia Governorate of Egypt are suffering from a serious water shortage.They say the supply is not clean enough to drink or cook with, and farmers claim they do not have enough to irrigate their lands.STORYLINE:Water: an absolute essential for farming - and for life in general.But villages in the north eastern Dakahlia Governorate are suffering from a serious shortage.Some residents are digging holes to install water pipes - but they complain the supply is only fit for bathing and is not clean enough for cooking or drinking.Farmers from El Arab Mahgoub village are staging a protest outside the governorate building to demand more action from the authorities.\"We are not asking for an impossible thing! We only need water to drink. We don't ask for something that is hard for them to bring to us,\" says village resident Wagih Mohamed.\"It's something that is very easy to do, just a cup of water. We went to the governorate, and they said they will connect the pipes to water but nothing of what they said happened.\"The protest is small - just 20 farmers expressing their unhappiness.But it is not just El Arab Mahgoub that has a problem.The village of El Hafeer Shehab also lacks a reliable water supply. And it's a cause for concern for the farmers here.\"The real problem we face is the irrigation of the farmland. There is no water at all; we have been here since 1972, we have never seen a worse drought than this one. The agriculture is collapsing!\" says farmer Mohamed Hassan.This dry, cracked farmland is not good enough to grow the crops the people rely on and they say they cannot feed themselves.The water shortage has had grave consequences for those desperately trying to find a solution. \"I lost my arm while I was working in the water machine while irrigating my farmland,\" says farmer Mahmoud Shabaan.\"I would not mind if I had lost my arm and my farmland was still as before. But I lost them both, my arm and my farmland!\"Some blame the building of the new Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam - also know as the Nahda Dam.Egypt has voiced fears that Ethiopia's 4.2 billion US dollar hydro-electric project will diminish its share of the Nile's resources, which provide almost all of the desert nation's water needs.But farmer Bider Abdelnasserm says he doesn't know if that really is the cause.\"Only the officials can understand such things. We want them to supply us with a share depending on our share of land irrigation, but they just ignore us,\" he complains.But officials say farmers have brought the problem on themselves.Hany Deabes, decided not to water their lands before this time.,\" he says.And while he won't be drawn on the Dam construction, he blames climate change for the water shortage.\"This year, we received the least percent of Nile water originates in Ethiopia.The new dam is expected to have the capacity to produce 6,000 megawatts of electricity and become the biggest hydro-electric power station in
