It's about bringing together all the roboticists in Silicon Valley and give them an opportunity for them to show off their latest technologies.\"Robots at the event included robotic toys for kids including a foldable, origami robot biologically inspired by cockroaches.Among the robot demonstrations was Softbank's \"Pepper\" humanoid companion robot, which can dance, sing and have conversations with users.Steve Carlin, vice president of marketing at SoftBank Robotics, says: \"It's a companion robot meaning it's meant to work with you and engage with you not so much to go pick things up and maybe go get you a drink or what have. So the arms are meant to gesticulate. They're meant to communicate with you because that's how you communicate. So the design was very intentional to make certain that you, as a human, were getting as much communication back that you normally give in your conversations.\"Bistrobot is showing off its automated production line for sandwiches.The bread goes through a mini robotic production line where sauces are added and salad is chopped.According to its maker, the robotic experience is all part of the fun.Jay Reppert, CEO of Bistrobot says: \"Bistrobot is a robot that makes sandwiches. The basic idea is we're trying to automate some of the stations you might find in restaurants. What we've been doing early on is building prototypes that work as vending machines.\"Most of these robots will be available for purchase by the public later this year.The block party was hosted by Silicon Valley Robotics, a professional association that supports innovation in robotic technologies.Fetch Robotics demonstrates its warehouse transportation bot to get items shipped out to customers faster.Mark Medonis, a senior engineer at Fetch Robotics says: \"Our initial use case for the Freight is to follow you through the warehouse as you're picking items from the shelf. They go into Freight. Then when you're done, you can click on the ship button on your iPad or whatever tablet, and the robot will autonomously go back to the packing location while a fresh robot with an empty bin comes up to meet you and you can continue on with your picking task.
