Edward Gibbs, Sotheby's Chairman for the Middle East and India, says the collection is extraordinary.\"It's an extremely diverse array of beautiful artefacts but they're all united by a theme. The theme which is about Islam, it's about Muslim patronage,\" he says.The items span more than a thousand years. Some of the most rare and unusual pieces are expected to command eye-watering prices when they go up for sale.This 16th century Ottoman box, ornately decorated in tortoiseshell, mother-of-pearl and ivory is estimated to fetch between 200,000 and 300,000 UK pounds (283,000 to 425,000 US dollars).And there's a special treat for chess fanatics.Pieces from the collection of influential 20th-century chess figure Lothar Schmid will be auctioned.He refereed what became known as the 'Match of the Century' between American Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky from the Soviet Union.Among his treasures is a near-complete 10th century Persian chess set.Gibbs says it's one of the earliest in existence.\"On the scale of rarity and importance that would definitely score a 10. And that's really for a museum or a chess nut, like Lothar Schmid himself,\" he explains.Paintings depicting Saharan desert scenes and life in 19th-century Egypt hang on the walls of the gallery.But there is one artwork that stands out.Ludwig Deutsch's 'Morning Prayers' shows a man worshipping in a Cairo mosque.A painting by the same artist sold for more than 900,000 UK pounds (approx. 1,277,600 US dollars) at last year's auction.And Sotheby's has high hopes this one will also attract some top bids.\"This time we have the picture estimated at 5 to 700,000 pounds and we shall see.
