Various of cocaine bricks lined up on a patioSTORYLINE: The latest Colombia Coca Survey, jointly produced by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Colombian government, was released on Friday showing a dramatic increase of almost 40 percent in the coca crop area - from 69,000 hectares in 2014 to 96,000 ha in 2015. Furthermore, this figure is twice the size of the coca cultivation surface in 2013, which was 48,000 hectares.UNODC chief Bo Mathiasen said the effect of the increase was a \"potential production of cocaine\" which he estimated at 646 metric tons for 2015, up 46 percent form 2014. Additional data show that five of the 23 Colombian departments affected by coca crops - Cauca, Narino, Putumayo, Caqueta and Norte de Santander - comprise 81 percent of the coca crop area. This indicates that despite the substantial increase in the cultivated surface, the affected communities would have remained the same.===========================================================Clients
