Jerry Garcia and Willie Dixon were also posthumously inducted.Before the show Keith spoke of the honor.\"I started as a songwriter and there's a Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, there's all kinds, this is the big one. To be recognized while you are alive and when you enjoy it with your family. This is the only one I care about. I don't do award shows very often, they are all organizations and politically - you gotta go kiss everybody's rear and do all that. This is voted on by your peers and they recognized 21 years of hard work and I am honored to be here,\" Keith said.Zac brown, Michael Buble, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Jennifer Nettles were a few of the stars to walk the red carpet.Lauper describes being recognized as a songwriter as an amazing honor - in between being distracted by fans screaming as stars were entering the red carpet.\"That's what you try to do as a writer and as an artist. You have to remember - I know now I am excited too. They are yelling, who is that? I have no idea could be anybody - so for me I just, I think you should always pass that on, because music can change everything. Music heals you. Music just makes you feel better. It's a rhythmic thing, we're rhythmic beings and if you ever noticed if you ever play a record sometimes in a room, the whole place can come alive and that's the power of music,\" Lauper said.Zac Brown got to perform on behalf of Jerry Garcia. Before going inside, he expressed his joy.\"It's a huge honor. The legacy of the Dead is a tremendous - how many people they took care of for so long, which I have a tremendous amount of respect for, trying to follow in those footsteps and try to have the freedom and the following that they instilled in the culture. So it's a great honor for me,\" Brown said.Brown also spoke of his collection of Dead music.\"A lot of the records I have of theirs are live shows that have been traded, and the fact that there is a culture around that - basically created that whole world - people trading the live shows because of the jams and just, it wasn't very predictable and that's what I liked about it too. Drawing a lot of inspiration from Jerry's leadership and try to write�put ourselves into it a little the way that hunter put himself into the songs,\" Brown said.Garcia was being honored with his writing partner, Robert Hunter. He had a simple reply to being inducted this year.\"It's like a good career ender for me. It's a nice surprise, and to share it with Jerry (Garcia) what can be a nicer thing to do today,\" Hunter said.Garcia's daughter Theresa spoke of the legacy her father helped create.\"I think that in a way the Grateful Dead has kind of become synonymous with the 60s and it's a great thing for humanity what happened in the 60s so it's a great thing to be a part of,\" Garcia said.Then there was legendary songwriter, and now ASCAP president Paul Williams, who explained what he loves about the industry.\"The best part of working in the music business is we don't have to give up our fan card. So I can walk in there tonight and look at some amazing songwriters and I still kinda have to poke myself and go, that's Jimmy Webb. I mean that's the way I have been about the business my whole life.
