STORY-LINE It began here, in this wacky kitchen that looks like the set of a cooking show.It's the home of Melissa Arroni and Emanuele Nardoni, and the scene of their five-course dinner parties.  The Milan couple cooked up the first social eating venture in Italy three years ago. It's now blossomed into the \"Ma' Hidden Kitchen Supper Club\" - a social networking hub with more than 4,000 members. \"In Milan there's a need for - I don't mean us - a need for social eating, something that brings people together and uses food as the glue, because we are in Italy, and here food is essential,\" says Arroni.\"What we like and what we are interested in is that when people come to our home, they really feel at home,\" she says. They've even hired a real chef so they may spend more time with their guests. Nardoni, who works in communications, says hosting came natural to them.  \"That was our approach even before starting this thing, only that before they were our friends, and now they are not our friends, but rather strangers, friends of friends, of friends, of friends, of friends, of friends, of friends, of friends,\" he said.Ma' Hidden Kitchen Supper Club offers 3 to 4 dinners a week for 12 guests, bringing together those living in Milan with those just passing through, like Petra Kiuru from Finland. \"Really nice evening, with good food and new people from all over the world, Italians, and an amazing home where we have been invited to dine. It could not be any better, it's really perfect.\" At times, it's less about the food, and more about the social networking. \"What surprised me is what, how varied the group is. There are bankers, there are lawyers, there are designers, there are people in marketing it's just veryÃ¯Â¿Â½people coming together for the common love of food,\" says Amanda Huynh from Canada.  Milan local Elena Tagliaferri says she loves the chance to meet new people.\"For me, who loves getting to know new people, meeting new people, it's an excellent experience, very fun and I'm pretty sure I will do this again, absolutely.\" The social eating trend is attracting more and more home cooks throughout Italy.  Many Italians are joining in with the help of the online platform Gnammo.  The website connects more than 2,000 cooks of all levels with paying customers hungry for friends and food.       Gianluca Ranno, founder of Gnammo, says the website is turning online social networking into a real experience.\"Gnammo is currently experiencing a moderate explosion, because everybody is talking about home restaurants now, and especially for two main reasons. (First) the economic aspect. Because people don't have much money to spend anymore they would rather spend where they can meet new friends,\" he says.\"The second aspect is social networking. Up to know social networks limited us to sitting behind a computer, Gnammo allows you to do what people have always done, meeting on the oldest social network in the platform, which is the dinner table, with new friends.\" Gnammo dinner venues have popped up in 279 cities in Italy, especially in popular locations like Turin, Venice, Florence and Rome.  Rome's CeneRomane web platform is one of Gnammo's premium partners, offering home dinners in prime locations.  Like this one, a few steps from Piazza Navona.Ruggero Donati opens up his elegant home a few times a year, offering a five-course, meal for 60 euros (68 US dollars) a head.  CeneRomane keeps 10 percent. But that doesn't matter much to Donati, who says he doesn't do it for the money, but for the company. \"I'm an architect, and so I'm a very curious person. I came into contact with this organisation, and became a part of it. We also hang out on other occasions. They are all people with houses that are more or less small, more or less fun, and more or less good at cooking and hosting people. It's a very fun experience. I'm happy to do it and I'll keep doing it,\" he says.Donati's guests for the evening are Louise Kastfelt and her husband from Copenhagen. \"It's been excellent. The hospitality is great, the food is wonderful, it's been very good so far, it's a very good experience,\" Kastfelt says.  CeneRomane offers 30 home restaurants in Rome, a small offering in comparison to the national platform, Gnammo.   Gnammo offers a wide range of homes and prices and they take a cut of 12 percent of the price of each meal.
