It by far is one of the most important art - it's by far one of the most important components of individuality.  Art gives us an opportunity to express, it actually dictates history, it gives us expression to - a means that we otherwise can't necessarily articulate ourselves,\" he explained. \"I'm fighting mad because without that you wouldn't have a Gordon Parks.\"Usher also said that encouraging young people to pursue their art - is a key reason he signed up for \"The Voice\" competition series.\"I attempt to do is be a motivator which is part of the reason why I elected to allow my talent to be there and that's just basically motivating young artists to find their voice and be it the actual, physical lesson of that moment or just a motivational message that will help someone at home watching that aspires to be an artist or just needs a little bit of something, an encouragement, to believe in himself or herself - that's why I was there.\"Also present was singer Janelle Monae, who, like Parks, is from Kansas.  She also spoke of the need to let young people have access to arts training.\"I credit arts for pretty much guiding and helping my career, giving me an opportunity to help change the world through music and so without music, without performing, without a platform - I don't think I'd be who I was.\"Also on the red carpet was Kasseem \"Swizz Beatz\" Dean, hip hop producer and husband of recording artist Alicia Keys.He said he was there - because he helped set up the awards ceremony.I'm a big fan of Gordon Parks and the Gordon Parks Foundation and I actually helped put together this event with the Foundation.
