STORY-LINE: These Cuban dancers are mixing up classical and contemporary styles to create a new fusion, under the guidance of celebrated dancer Carlos Acosta. The Carlos Acosta International Dance Foundation is the brainchild of one of the world's top ballet dancers. 42-year-old Acosta was one of 11 children born to a poor Havana family and studied with the National Ballet of Cuba.Acosta joined The Royal Ballet in 1998 and was a principal guest artist since 2003. He retired from classical dance in November. His ambition now is create a Cuban contemporary dance company with its roots in the principles of classic ballet techniques. \"My company, it's new, a new movement inside the island. I select for the company, dancers with strong contemporary and classical experiences, one half is dancers with classical technique and the other half contemporary dancers, so there is a symbiosis. I think this will create a new style in the island but also unique in the world,\" says Acosta. The company was founded last summer and doesn't yet have permanent headquarters.Raul Reynoso comes from a background of contemporary dance. \"Really the novelty of Carlos Acosta, it's in try to mix, a little, the quality of the movement to a classic dancer, to see how this dancer assimilates the contemporary style, and vice versa, the contemporary dancer trying to polish his technique and make a more careful and virtuoso dancer.\"Elireyin Hernandez, who was trained in the classical techniques associated with the National Ballet of Cuba, says they are a new breed of dancers.\"This a project that, of course, will be long-term, because first there must be unity, a search for movement, must integrate the classical dancers with the contemporary, for we don't say, we are classical or we are contemporary, but we are Acosta dance. \"Barbara Balbuena, is a dance teacher and former the dean of the dance department at Havana's Instituto Superior de Arte and an expert in dance in Cuban society. \"The creation, that the choreographers can bring, there is always a positive acceptance by the public, because they love dance.
