That JV's (joint venture) main purpose is provide our interconnectivity technology, gaining the experience in the sharing car sectors.\"Partnerships between traditional auto makers, telematics companies and some of the Chinese internet giants like Baidu are driving the growth in connected living.The Shanghai auto show has become an increasingly important event in the car industry's calendar since China overtook the US as the largest auto market in the world in 2009.And that, coupled with China's more than 500 million smartphone users, is one of the reasons car manufacturers feel connectivity is such an important issue to get right. \"The connected car revolution is happening as we speak,\" says Bill Russo, auto industry analyst and Managing Director at Gaofeng Advisory Company. He recently wrote a report saying densely populated urban environments - like many cities in China - will require a drastic change in approach to the idea of car ownership, moving to a ride-sharing network of cars for better mobility. \"We're seeing examples of it shown in concept here today. What's particularly - what will accelerate this - is the mindset of the internet companies as it relates to commercialising the services of mobility services.\"One of those internet companies is Baidu.The internet giant is working with audio specialists Harman to bring their \"Carlife\" service to a number of auto brands in China including BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz.\"The world is more and more connected,\" says Baidu Vice President Liu Jun.He sees the development of connected cars going hand in hand with the development of internet services as a whole. \"There is a huge demand for the map product. For the time being, most car users will have to settle with just a bit more functionality given to their smart phones.That might include being able to check fuel levels and vehicle location through GM's OnStar service, or being able to more easily sync entertainment services such as those showcased by LeTV and Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC).\"(Connectivity) is about taking information from inside and outside of the car and joining them perfectly.
