Close-up of window LEADIN The French community radio station \"Beur FM\" brings France's Muslim community together, wherever they may be in the country.It's proving a popular place for listeners to debate current news stories and stay in touch with their faith.STORYLINEIt's early morning and the start of radio show \"La Matinale.\"To the east of Paris, the suburb of Charenton-le-Pont is home to the radio station \"Beur FM\".It's a busy radio station, with a difference: it caters mainly to the country's Muslim communities.Around 296,000 listeners tune in daily to hear talk radio, music and lively debates - people are encouraged to call in and offer their opinions. Including podcasts, the radio station reaches around 400,000 people. Taking the reigns for today's debate about abstention is Yassine Belattar, a French humourist and the presenter of La Matinale.Also in the studio is special guest Jean-Claude Tchicaya, a civics teacher in the Paris suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis.He says young people just don't want to vote.Nordine, a listener, is taking part in the discussion. He says he doesn't feel represented by President Francois Hollande.The radio station is a safe place for listeners to air their views.After the Paris extremist attacks in January 2015, the station became sought after as an expert on France's Muslim community.Many listeners called in to respond to the attack.Belattar says such callers are still phoning in. \"People still call us and say 'I am not Charlie, I don't know Charlie Hebdo, I was not a subscriber. And even more, as a Muslim it grated on me, even if I am absolutely not a fundamentalist. It was a pain. Can I discuss it with you without being accused of fundamentalism?',\" he says. \"Because this is what happens in French television, it is dogmatic and gives lessons.\"One of the station's in demand programmes is 'Islam Now' presented by Imam Abdelali Mamoun.At first the show was broadcast during Ramadan, but proved so popular among listeners that it was given a daily slot.Over one hour, the Imam, and a co-host, broach different subjects and take questions from listeners. No debate is too controversial for Islam Now.The Paris killings also ignited fierce debate on this programme.\"We have to present arguments, texts, everything that is written in the Quran, to explain and say that what Kouachis did is incompatible with Islam. It is a totally wrong Islam.\"The General Director of Beur FM, Djima Kettane, explains the station's appeal. \"Beur FM still exists and it is still here because there is a need. A need for expression and freedom of speech.\"Representation of the Muslim community has been part of the station's core values since its launch in 1992. Before that, it was a community radio station set-up by Nacer Kettane, a French-Algerian doctor, and friends, in 1981. The aim then was to create a voice for the Maghreb community in France, even the name \"Beur\" is French slang for North African. Nowadays \"Beur FM\" transmits in 18 French cities and has 12 full-time employees. Kettane and her team wants the station to keep spreading. Editorial independence is also important to the station, they use advertising to generate income - and retain control.The radio wants to educate and importantly provide a space for listeners.\"Our listeners who tune in to Beur FM have a lack of signposts, of theological references. And this is what we are trying to fill this lack of reference points,\" Mamoun says. \"They ask certain questions, namely about how to reconcile their everyday life with their religious
