Eckert talking to camera\u003cbr/\u003eUp until the very last moments of her life, September 11 widow Beverly Eckert poured her grief over her husband's death into action - pushing presidents, lawmakers and even herself to do more to make the country safer.\u003cbr/\u003eEckert - whose husband, Sean Rooney, died in the September 11 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York - was on a commuter plane approaching the Buffalo airport on Thursday night when it nose-dived into the ground, killing all aboard and one person on the ground.\u003cbr/\u003ePresident Barack Obama paid tribute to Eckert's memory on Friday, telling those gathered at a White House event that Eckert \"was an inspiration to me and to so many others.\" \u003cbr/\u003eThe President sent out his thoughts and prayers to Eckert's family. \u003cbr/\u003eJust a week before her death, Eckert met with Obama at the White House as part of a group of September 11 victims' families and relatives of those killed in the bombing of the USS Cole to discuss how the new administration would handle \"terror\" suspects.\u003cbr/\u003eSecretary of State and former New York senator, Hillary Clinton also praised Eckert's legacy and said: \"I want to publicly thank her for all she did in the midst of her own tragedy.\"\u003cbr/\u003eEckert was travelling to Buffalo to celebrate what would have been her late husband's 58th birthday and launch a scholarship in his memory.\u003cbr/\u003eEckert was part of a group of women who met after the 2001 attacks, and became active together on issues concerning the families of victims of the September 11 attacks. \u003cbr/\u003eEckert's husband - who was also her high school sweetheart - had been at work on the 98th floor of the south tower when the attacks occurred.\u003cbr/\u003eEckert , 57, cried often when telling others about how her husband called her that morning from the burning building and said he loved her.\u003cbr/\u003eShe carried her grief to Congress where she advocated for better \"anti-terror\" efforts, as part of a small group of widows, mothers, and children who played the roles of advocates.\u003cbr/\u003eEckert was also one of the main champions for a September 11 Commission and pushed the administration of then president George W. Bush to provide more information to the commission. \u003cbr/\u003eOnce the commission's work was done and their report was published, Eckert lobbied Congress to adopt their recommendations.\u003cbr/\u003eThe report along with the tireless efforts of advocates like Eckert eventually forced lawmakers in 2004 to pass sweeping reforms of the US intelligence
