Paige, from the Royal Air Force in the United Kingdom, said she was fearful of transitioning while in the military.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I had to make the decision and the scary part was losing friends family or my job,\" said Paige.\u003cbr/\u003eBut luckily for Paige she didn't lose her job in the air force. She said at the time, 16 years ago,  her commanding and medical officers were very supportive even when sex and gender anti-discrimination laws were not in place yet.\u003cbr/\u003eBut that was not the case for petty officer Landon Wilson who was in the US navy.  He said he was outed when the navy was doing the paper work to give him a promotion, and as a result, he was discharged. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Because of something fundamental to who I am, my service was still never going to be enough for the United States military,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003eOther military members from European and Australasian countries shared their experiences with the attending audience.\u003cbr/\u003eWashington - October 20, 2014\u003cbr/\u003e1.
