Various Ostriches\u003cbr/\u003eThe government in Mexico has pledged to make education a key part of environmental strategy. \u003cbr/\u003eBut some environmentalists are already a step ahead of the game.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Mama Tierra workshop in southern Mexico City is a lively example of one individual's effort to educate children about renewable technologies. \u003cbr/\u003eStudents come by the Mama Tierra workshop after school and on weekends to work on school projects or just to have fun. \u003cbr/\u003eThey can make anything from a robot to a solar car. \u003cbr/\u003eGirls and boys alike get enthusiastic about inventing new toys or learning how the many models on the shelves work. \u003cbr/\u003eKids typically pay about US$10-$30 for help and materials with a project, steep for some, but it doesn't seem to keep the crowds of curious kids away.   \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to the Mexican Environmental Ministry the government plans to be a strong participant in the United Nations' Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, which started in 2002. \u003cbr/\u003eBut many of Mexico's environmental initiatives are on the grassroots level. Macias sees no government funding, and neither does Dr. Constanza Sanchez, who runs an ostrich farm in a small town north of Mexico City.   \u003cbr/\u003eSanchez offers tours of her facility to local school groups and families, charging about US$2.50 for entry. \u003cbr/\u003eThe ostriches are the most eye-catching part of the El Quelite Ranch, but Sanchez also teaches solar cooking. Animals like macaws and a donkey can be found on the premises.  \u003cbr/\u003eMacias and Sanchez both pursue environmental education because they think it's worthwhile, but they're finding that it
