Simpson stepped down from the witness stand Tuesday without any effort from his lawyer to undo the damage of two days of cross-examination.\u003cbr/\u003eDefence attorney Robert Baker had been expected to throw Simpson a round of sympathetic questions. \u003cbr/\u003eBut, in a surprise move, Baker said he will call Simpson back to the stand during the defense case of the wrongful-death lawsuit next month.\u003cbr/\u003eAs the session was adjourned early, the jurors headed home for a six-day Thanksgiving holiday, carrying a final image of Simpson again denying that he stabbed Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman to death. \u003cbr/\u003eThe trial resumes next Tuesday.\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier in the day, a juror was removed from court after being accused of trying to contact attorneys involved in the case.\u003cbr/\u003eTelling his side of the story for the first time in front of a jury, Simpson has for two days faced a barrage of evidence, insinuations and accusations from the prosecution.  \u003cbr/\u003eDespite tough questioning, Simpson answered in calm, even tones - not revealing the explosive temper the prosecution hoped to conjure out of him.\u003cbr/\u003eHe answered with a series of \"I don't knows\" and a string of denials.\u003cbr/\u003eBaker's decision to postpone Simpson's \"rehabilitation\" in front of the jury came as a surprise - and was much cause for comment among the lawyers, pundits and witnesses assembled outside the courtroom.\u003cbr/\u003eOne lawyer defended Baker's decision to postpone his questioning of Simpson.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think Mr Baker has control over this case and I don't think O.J. dictates everything that's done in this court room, I think he has enough sense to know he has certain expertise in certain areas and he should rely upon his attorneys in the areas that they have expertise in.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION:  Melvin Grimes, former Rodney King lawyer\u003cbr/\u003eThis man appeared surprised at how short O.J's first appearance in the witness stand was.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Q: Were the jury surprised that it ended so early?\u003cbr/\u003eA: There seemed to be some surprise all through the court room.
