to discuss week's nuclear tests by India and the social unrest gripping Indonesia. \u003cbr/\u003eThe leaders of the world's eight richest nations gathered at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham, central England on Saturday evening for a gala dinner following a day of tough meetings.\u003cbr/\u003eTroubling world crises in Asia kept the Group of Eight leaders busy on the first day of their weekend summit.\u003cbr/\u003eSummit host British Prime Minister Tony Blair arrived first with his wife Cherie.\u003cbr/\u003eFrench President Jacques Chirac, Japanese Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto, German Chancellor Helmut Kohl and their wives were among the high-level arrivals.  \u003cbr/\u003eWith two days of meetings left, the leaders are expected to address the week's news events in India and Indonesia.\u003cbr/\u003eIn an interview before his guests arrived, Blair said the peace referendum in Northern Ireland next week was another hot topic he hoped would be addressed by the leaders.\u003cbr/\u003eThe round table discussions bring the leaders together in a friendly setting, but differences in policy across the group remain, most notably over India.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Friday night, the leaders issued a communique united in opposition against India's two rounds of underground nuclear tests this week.\u003cbr/\u003eAll eight nations said their relations with India have been affected by the tests, which they said raised \"grave concerns\" over stability in South Asia.\u003cbr/\u003eBut despite the group condemnation, there was no common agreement on condoning sanctions against India already imposed by the U-S, Canada and Japan.\u003cbr/\u003eRussia and France reportedly remain strongly opposed to issuing any sanctions of their own.\u003cbr/\u003eThe leaders also issued a plea to neighbouring Pakistan to resist pressure to copy India with its own nuclear tests.\u003cbr/\u003eThe G-8 leaders also are expected to discuss ways to bring about an end to the financial crisis gripping Asia, and the current turmoil in Indonesia.\u003cbr/\u003eJapanese Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto won praise on the first day of the summit for efforts to revive his country's economy, seen by some analysts on the verge of collapse.\u003cbr/\u003eFew specifics have come out of the early meetings, but aides said international crime and speeding relief to the
