I am delighted to be able to tell you that all five were released earlier today to the Eritrean authorities and have just arrived in the care of our embassy in Asmara. We have informed the families of all five, they were of course very relieved to hear the news and are looking forward to being reunited. The five are being fed and given fresh clean clothes, they are seeing a doctor and medical checks are continuing, but I understand that broadly they are all in good health. We continue I'm afraid to be concerned for the welfare of the Ethiopians who were taken at the same time as the British Embassy group about whom we don't yet have such clear news. British officials in Addis Ababa, Asmara, London and elsewhere have worked tirelessly since the five went missing and I would like to extend my personal thanks to our Ambassadors in Addis Ababa, Bob Dewar, and Asmara, Nick Astbury and their staff as well to officials in London and at the department of International Development for the outstanding work that their teams have put in to help secure the release of the five. We've had also exceptional assistance from Prime Minister Meles (Zenawi) of Ethiopia and President Isaias (Afwerki) of Eritrea, as well as others in the region and I thank all of them for their efforts. We do expect the group to issue their own statement later, but I'd like to take this opportunity of asking the media to respect their privacy, and that of their families, so that they can be reunited and recover from the stresses of the last 13 days.\"  \u003cbr/\u003eFive Europeans who were abducted in Ethiopia almost two weeks ago have been released and are in good health, the British government said on Tuesday. \u003cbr/\u003eForeign Secretary Margaret Beckett said the three British men, an Anglo-Italian and a French woman, all British diplomats or their relatives, were released earlier on Tuesday in Eritrea and had been taken to the British embassy in Asmara, the Eritrean capital. \u003cbr/\u003eBritish officials on Tuesday lifted a reporting restriction on identifying the five. \u003cbr/\u003eThey are Peter Rudge, first secretary of the British embassy; embassy worker Jonathan Ireland; Malcolm Smart and Laure Beaufils of the Department for International Development; and Rosanna Moore, whose husband Michael Moore heads the British Council's Ethiopia office. \u003cbr/\u003eBeckett said officials \"continue to be concerned for the welfare\" of a group of Ethiopians abducted at the same time. \u003cbr/\u003eThe hostages were on a tourist trip to the remote Afar region of northeastern Ethiopia when they were seized at gunpoint along with 13
