The program teaches comprehensive sexual education. So teens are taught not only about sexually transmitted diseases and how to use a condom, but also how to write a resume and balance a check book. \u003cbr/\u003eSixteen year-old Leticia Vargas says the program has helped her make better life decisions. \u003cbr/\u003eSOT: Vargas\u003cbr/\u003e\"I'm looking forward to my future and my career. And so thinking about the negative things that may occur, like being pregnant and doing drugs. So I learn more here.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSuch talk about sex could become common in extracurricular programs nationwide. The Obama administration is allowing federal funding for sex education programs that aren't based solely on sexual abstinence. Cory Neering with Planned Parenthood says the goal is not only to make sure kids don't become teen parents, but so they also have a clear vision about their future. \u003cbr/\u003eSOT: Cory Neering, Vice President of Education for Planned Parenthood of South Florida and Treasure Coast \"We're talking job club, creative arts, lifetime sports, school..oftentime these kids come to us and they are at or below reading level when it comes to science and math...all of the core indicators that would help them not only graduate high school but enter into college.\"\u003cbr/\u003eAdvocates of these programs are hoping to reach more youth. The difficulty is finding a project that works for all teens. Dr. Lawrence Friedman with the Division of Adolescent Medicine at the University of Miami says there isn't a \"one size fits all\" project.\u003cbr/\u003eSOT: Dr. Friedman\u003cbr/\u003e\"A lot of the programs have to be evaluated and we don't know quite yet what programs will be forthcoming that will have to be checked to see if they're successful or not.\"\u003cbr/\u003eDr. Friedman says programs that incorporate contraception, other forms of sexuality and abstinence as a package are more successful in reducing not only pregnancy rates, but also rates of sexually transmitted diseases.\u003cbr/\u003eNAT/wide of Teen Time bus leaving\u003cbr/\u003eThe South Florida program costs $3,500 per teen.
