I like atmosphere and calming, soothing and its nice. It's good trend, its very trendy I mean, you're fashionable if you are doing shisha these days.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThat view according to the WHO comes from targeting women with advertising.\u003cbr/\u003eThe World No Tobacco Day 2010 says it \"will give overdue recognition to the importance of controlling the epidemic of tobacco among women\". \u003cbr/\u003ePakistan, like many countries around the world, has weak regulations restricting smoking and tobacco use, and limited restraints on advertising.\u003cbr/\u003eProfessor Javaid Khan is the chairman of the National Alliance for Tobacco Control which is urging his government to end its lenient attitude to the industry.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says \"Pakistan is really in top of the world (the highest number), as far as cancers are concerned. The incidence of mouth cancer is number one in the world in Pakistan and again if we talk about lung cancer, that is the number one cause of death in Pakistani males.\" \u003cbr/\u003eThis is why Khan wants tight regulations.\u003cbr/\u003eIn one of the wards at the Karachi Civil Government hospital is 51 year old Aziz Bano.\u003cbr/\u003eShe has throat cancer and has five children to care for.\u003cbr/\u003eEven now she's not quite sure of what disease is responsible for her illness, but she's discovered that it is related to her smoking habit.\u003cbr/\u003eBano says \"I used to smoke and because of that I got some problem in my throat, I even can't walk because of weakness and I am here in this hospital for treatment.\"\u003cbr/\u003eTobacco is the single most preventable cause of death in the world today and this year alone it will kill more than five million people.\u003cbr/\u003eMore than tuberculosis, HIV and malaria combined. \u003cbr/\u003eDespite this, in 2005, an estimated 90 billion cigarettes were smoked in Pakistan. \u003cbr/\u003eA recently imposed ban on smoking in public offices has received an implementation score of 2 out of a possible 10 by the World Health Organisation.\u003cbr/\u003eAnother patient at the hospital is Muhammed Riaz who has lung cancer.\u003cbr/\u003eRiaz says \"my message to people as a lung cancer patient is this that for God's sake please quit smoking, or any other form of tobacco and I my appeal to them is, please keep yourself and your family away from the suffering I am going  through.\"\u003cbr/\u003eHere in Pakistan smoking isn't the only danger from tobacco.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile smoking is popular amongst the young, a significant number of people use smokeless tobacco in the form of Paan (betel leaf with betal nuts and raw forms of tobacco), Gutka ( a mixture of betel nuts, tobacco and some chemicals), Niswar ( a ground form of different tobaccos).\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Dr Khan who is also  a professor and head of Pulmonary and Critical Care medicine at Aga Khan University \"sixteen per cent of the girls of Karachi schools are using tobacco in the form of smoking.\"\u003cbr/\u003eHe says if you add the use of smokeless tobacco then this number soars.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says in Pakistan cigarette advertisements require a third of a packet to have a written warning highlighting the potential dangers of tobacco use. \u003cbr/\u003eBut because half the population is illiterate, half of country can't read them.\u003cbr/\u003eRecently graphic messages were imposed, but support services to help those trying to quit the habit have few medical support centres to turn to.\u003cbr/\u003eHalf of Pakistan's 180 strong million population  is addicted to tobacco, either through smoking, chewing, or snuff.\u003cbr/\u003eKarachi, Pakistan 21-26 May 2010\u003cbr/\u003e1. So the number is definitely increasing in Pakistani females and if we look at (the) adult population almost thirty per cent of the adult males in Pakistan smoke and if we add smokeless tobacco, then almost, over fifty per cent of the population, adult population in Pakistan is using some sort of tobacco which includes smoking, shisha, naswa (snuff) pan (betel leaf filled with tobacco and chemicals) and other forms of smokeless tobacco\"\u003cbr/\u003e14.
