Track down to wide of Grand Palais interior \u003cbr/\u003eGerman designer Karl Lagerfeld unveiled his latest collection for Chanel at Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday (22JAN08.)\u003cbr/\u003eThe Haute Couture collection was heavily inspired by the ballerina, with an abundance of volume and tutu like frills used in dresses and skirts. \u003cbr/\u003eThe collection shows an unexpected new direction for Chanel haute couture.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's fun to start with what people think is the base and then do completely different, higher proportioned, flat shoes, higher heels...I thought it was a change in attitude,\" Lagerfeld told AP Entertainment.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen asked whether the collection would cause a surge in the ballerina style, Lagerfeld stressed that his ballerina was definitely a 21st century woman:\u003cbr/\u003e\"Yes in another way but the hair has to be a certain way too, it must not look like a ballerina from the fifties\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe colour palette was demure and feminine, mainly made up of pale pinks, cream and grey. However there were touches of Chanel's classic trademarks such at little black dresses- a signature of Lagerfeld's- and tweed tailored jackets, although the house's signature tweeds were abandoned for this collection. Instead, Lagerfeld sent out snappy little suits with boxy jackets that grazed the hips.\u003cbr/\u003eSilver and sequins added some glamour to the show with full length and figure hugging dresses.\u003cbr/\u003eLagerfeld chose silver for his evening wear this year in contrast to his heavy use of gold in last year's collection. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Silver works better here.
