It's the \"wonut.\" This doughnut meets waffle creation is a sweet treat Chicago foodies say is better than NY's croissant meets doughnut.\u003cbr/\u003eAlex Hernandez, owner of Waffles Cafe in Chicago invented a wonut which is a combination pastry of a waffle and donut and has been flying off the shelves. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Well I wanted to have something for our customers that was grab and go and I wanted something to stay with the theme of waffles,\" said Alex Hernandez, owner of waffles cafe. So we started playing around with different pastry ideas and I started playing around with the waffle irons so we thought lets fire them up and make them into donuts.\"\u003cbr/\u003eHe sells up to 600 per day and customers say it is Chicago's answer to New York City's \"cronut\" pastry which is a mix of a croissant and a donut. \u003cbr/\u003eHernandez has 12 different flavors including red velvet, Mexican chocolate, maple syrup, bacon pepper and cinnamon sugar. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We tested about 12 different flavors everything from gluten free cinnamon sugar we have a vegan maple syrup we're playing around with a bacon pepper maple syrup red velvet and mexican chocolate are the two most popular right now,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eChicago - May 21, 2014\u003cbr/\u003e1.
