Artistic freedom was not a principle often practiced behind the ``Iron Curtain'. These works would have never seen the light of day.\u003cbr/\u003eNow their creators are experiencing a freedom of expression they could only previously have dreamt about.\u003cbr/\u003eThe curator of Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art says the examples are a rare glimpse into the post-cold war world of East Central Europe.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think probably what we are looking at here is academic artists on many occasions whose only way of expressing themselves was academically through academic sculpture or socialist-realist paintings. and so on. But the techniques and the thinking behind them are certainly not.
