Monday.\u003cbr/\u003eAlison Reynolds, director for the London-based Free Tibet Campaign, said the Communist Party has not shown real signs of progress since 2001, when Beijing won the Olympic bid.\u003cbr/\u003eReynolds alleged that the Chinese regime continued to imprison activists, strictly monitor and censor the Internet and had shown an unwillingness to be open about epidemics like SARS. \u003cbr/\u003eTwo activists travelling with Reynolds were detained after unfurling a red and yellow banner that read: \"No Olympics for China until Tibet is free\" with a drawing of the Olympic emblem made out of barbed wire. \u003cbr/\u003eAt the Athens Olympics which ended on Sunday, police scuffled with Tibetan protesters in the main Olympic Stadium complex, just hours before the presentation of the Olympic flag to organisers of the 2008 Beijing Games.\u003cbr/\u003eChina won its bid over the objections of human rights groups, who demanded the country grant its people greater freedoms before being awarded the games. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to a report released earlier this month by a coalition of Tibet campaign organisations, the Chinese government has engaged in a \"sweeping crackdown\" on Tibetan religious leaders and has showed its intolerance towards dissent by placing activists under house arrest during the 15-year anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. \u003cbr/\u003eChinese troops entered Tibet in 1951, though Beijing claimed the region was part of Chinese territory for centuries. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Dalai Lama, the region's spiritual leader, fled to India after an abortive uprising against Chinese rule in 1959, and received the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize for his non-violent agitation for autonomy, which he wants in order to protect Tibetan culture.\u003cbr/\u003ePaul Bourke, of the Australian Tibet Council also took the opportunity to directly address journalists in Beijing with his concern over a Tibetan Buddhist monk who was convicted in a fatal bombing.\u003cbr/\u003eTenzin Deleg Rinpoche received a suspended death sentence in December 2002 on charges of seeking independence for Tibet and taking part in bombings that killed one person in the western province of Sichuan.\u003cbr/\u003eChinese authorities say the monk and his aide, Lobsang Dhondup, confessed to the bombings, however activists say they were maltreated in custody and did not get a fair trial.\u003cbr/\u003eLobsang Dhondup was executed in January 2003. \u003cbr/\u003eTenzin Deleg Rinpoche was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve - such sentences often are commuted to long prison terms.\u003cbr/\u003eLast February, Human Rights Watch said the charges against Tenzin Deleg Rinpoche were not proven and that he should be freed pending a new trial that meets international standards.\u003cbr/\u003eChina's Foreign Ministry rejected the statement.\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile, activists like New Yorker Han-Shan of Students for Free Tibet said that China can expect more from campaigners as they focus their attention toward the Beijing Olympics.\u003cbr/\u003eHan-Shan, along with his colleague, Australian Liam Phelan, were arrested shortly after unfurling their protest banner at Beijing's Ethnic Minorities Park. \u003cbr/\u003eStill under construction, the theme Park is part of the 2008 Olympic complex aimed at showcasing the diversity of cultures under Chinese rule.\u003cbr/\u003eCampaigners say that China's use of the Games as a propaganda tool to endorse its domestic and foreign policies is a further
