between the two nations.\u003cbr/\u003eThe announcement comes amid efforts by the US to build bipartisan support for its trade policies at a time when the country is running record trade deficits.\u003cbr/\u003eBy selecting Malaysia for free trade negotiations, the administration chose a country that is already America's tenth largest trading partner. \u003cbr/\u003eTrade each year between the two countries is estimated to be worth 44 (b) billion US dollars (36.9 (b) billion euros). \u003cbr/\u003eThe administration announced last month that it planned to launch free trade negotiations with South Korea.\u003cbr/\u003eFree trade talks with Thailand, another economic power in the region, are already under way.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Malaysia has been at the forefront of the economic dynamism transforming Asia in recent years,\" US Trade Representative Rob Portman said at the news conference. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Malaysia's rapidly growing economy will help generate meaningful export opportunities for our workers, service providers and farmers\", he added.\u003cbr/\u003ePortman said he believed the negotiations with Malaysia and South Korea could be completed by the end of the year. \u003cbr/\u003eTalks with Thailand have been temporarily suspended until after the country's current election campaign is completed.\u003cbr/\u003eMalaysian Minister of Trade
