Close up shot box of wine pull focus to bottle of English sparkling wine.
Traditional European winemakers are in a rut, facing overcapacity, and tough markets.
On 4th July, the European Union will put forward proposals to overhaul the wine industry, which is struggling with competition from New World rivals.
It's proposing that excess vines are dug up, and subsidies are cut.
But one vineyard in Britain is claiming it's business of making sparkling wine to rival French champagn is thriving.
Chalky soil, cool but not too cold weather and the careful planting of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes: this 12-hectares (30 acres) vineyard enjoys all the ideal prerequisites to concoct the perfect bottle of classic champagne.
Except that this is not France's north-east region of Champagne but south-east England, not an area historically known for its production of sparkling wine.
RidgeView vineyard is nestled at the foot of the Sussex Downs, alongside some neighbouring vineyards in Sussex and Kent.
But the English sparkling wine produced here can not be called Champagne thanks to a EU law that protects the exclusivity of regional foods such as Champagne and Parma ham meaning that items can only use these names if they are made in those areas.
Mardi Roberts, is the sales and marketing manager of the family-run firm.
She says English winemakers need to raise the profile of local wines so they can compete with Champagne's strong brand recognition.
There are few better ways of spreading the virtues of English sparkling wine than to hold a blind tasting competition, an event which RidgeView offers wine enthusiasts a few times a year.
At these events a group of about 25 people are gathered around for a tutored blind tasting of eight different sparkling wines including some Champagnes and some of its best varieties.
At the end of the evening, the guests will be asked if they can make an educated guess about the origin of the samples.
RidgeView's managing director and founder, Mike Roberts encourages guests to identify the subtle variations in colour, for instance, between pale straw and deeper gold, to appreciate the different amount of bubbles present in each sample and to try and pick out the different flavours, from bready to more citrusy fruit flavours.
Before the final tasting, the guests are given a tour of the vineyard to explain why the conditions here on the Sussex Downs so favourable to the production of sparkling wine.
The latitude is almost identical to that of the Champagne region in France as is the soil which is composed of natural limestone and chalk.
The cooler climate, compared to southern regions where flat wine is produced, is essential to create the high acidity that sparkling wine requires.
The winters in the South Downs are mild and the high hills to the south keep the micro-climate comparatively dry and positively hot in the summer.
In recent years where the UK has experienced hotter summers, the climatic conditions have even surpassed that of Champagne where temperatures have almost been too high.
Yet hotter summers are not necessarily good news.
Roberts says the best harvests are the result of a long growing season which allows the fruit to ripen on the plant.
Back at the tasting competition, the results have been read out and to the surprise of many guests, the highest scoring sparklers have been the English ones.
Commenting on the competition's results, Nicole Bradfield admits that her group of friends failed completely to identify the authentic champagnes.
Her friend, Anna Rowland is surprised that the champagnes didn't achieve the highest scores.
And Christian Grillaut, a commercial manager from France with a more experienced palate, has to admit that his two highest scoring samples came from England.
Encouraged by their findings, most guests are eager to buy a bottle from the RidgeView cellar. But a shortage of supply means they are only allowed to purchase one bottle each.
To keep up with demand, RidgeView's plans are to increase production fivefold which will mean finding more land to plant vines on.
According to figures from the marketing Association of the English Wine Industry, 'Englishwineproducers' in 2005 there were 362 vineyards in the UK.
The Wine Standards Branch of the Food Standards Agency reports that the 2006 production figures for English and Welsh wines was one of their highest volumes on record.
3,369,000 million bottles will be produced from the 2006 harvest, the third highest volume since production records
