And the thing is that now Bokor Mountain is under development - there's a hotel complex, there's going to be a golf course - and the worry is that this plant may be threatened with extinction already even though we've only known about it for a year and a half,\" he says. \u003cbr/\u003eLand at the top of Bokor is being cleared for the resort, expected to cost (USD) $1 billion over 15 years, according to developer Sokimex.\u003cbr/\u003eConstruction workers using drills, diggers and dynamite are clearing the way.\u003cbr/\u003eSokimex Co. Ltd is owned by one of Cambodia's richest men, Sok Kong. \u003cbr/\u003eKong says preserving the natural environment is vital if his resort is to attract tourists.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The natural environment at Bokor is very important and my company is very, very conscious of protecting the environment because this is the thing that can help attract tourists to visit the new resort. So the natural environment is very important and we are especially keen to protect rare species of plants and animals such as the newly discovered carnivorous plant.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBut environmentalists are concerned.\u003cbr/\u003eSmoke is already billowing as jungle woodland is cleared to make way for the 36 hole golf course.\u003cbr/\u003eSereivathana Tuy, head of conservation and endangered species at Fauna \u0026amp; Flora International Phnom Penh branch stresses the importance of preserving the natural habitat of the Nepenthes bokorensis.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There was a major study of wildlife conducted in this area recently and about one hundred and fifty new species were discovered in one year in the Bokor and Cardamom mountain region.
