That's the liberating part.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBut, while 3D printers are becoming increasingly more available to the public through machines such as this MakerBot Replicator 2, more advanced models are revolutionising the health world with new discoveries.\u003cbr/\u003eBritish product designers Fripp Research and Design are here exhibiting their range of 3D printed prosthetic body parts. \u003cbr/\u003eTraditional soft tissue prostheses are hand-made by highly-skilled anaplastologists, making them time-consuming and very expensive to make.\u003cbr/\u003ePatients are required to endure a sometimes painful impression of the trauma area, before having to wait weeks before they can receive their new prosthesis.\u003cbr/\u003eBut, using 3D printing technology, Fripp Design and Research have realised the process can be transformed through the application of modern industrial design methods.\u003cbr/\u003eUsing the latest in 3D data capture and 3D print technologies, the rapid manufacture of soft tissue prosthesis such as these is non-invasive for the patient, quick to design and cost effective in comparison to traditional techniques.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Products like this where they will be heading is actually to improve the dignity for people outside the developed world. Some of the developing nations who cant actually afford some of the really highly skilled technicians to be able to produce these fantastic hand made prostheses. So for example with these technologies we can actually produce things far far cheaper, which opens it up to people who have to go without currently,\" says Tom Fripp, Managing Director of Fripp Design and Research\u003cbr/\u003eWith the continuing advancement in 3D printing technology, Fripp says it's vital it's application is not abused:  \"There's a danger in any manufacturing process, that it could be abused to produce something that is going to cause harm. And I don't think that 3D printing is any different in that respect.\"\u003cbr/\u003eFrom hospitals to Hollywood, US-based film special effects studio Legacy Effects are here displaying their 3D printed designs which eventually made it to the silver screen.\u003cbr/\u003eThese suits are both from recent Guillermo Del Toro film 'Pacific Rim' and the designs were created using a combination of 3D sculpting, custom painting and necessary detailing to establish the worn and weary look of the characters.\u003cbr/\u003eElsewhere, this character is from James Cameron's 2009 film 'Avatar'.\u003cbr/\u003eThis 3D printed bust of female character 'Neytiri' was created using 3D designs that had already been developed during the film's production process and was finally brought to life using Legacy Effects' 3D printing technology.\u003cbr/\u003eFollowing the lead of comic book-makers Marvel, Legacy Effects made this suit for the first Iron Man film, released in 2008.\u003cbr/\u003eUsing 3D sculpting and 3D printing technology, Legacy Effects streamlined the construction of this suit for numerous screen tests before the film went into production.\u003cbr/\u003eLegacy Effect's Lead Systems Engineer, Jason Lopes, says that with today's tight deadlines, 3D printing has become a must to keep up with demand: \"Under today's deadline changes, revisions, there's no other way to do it. We can stay true to the traditional art all the way through the process and we can meet the demand of changes at the last minute and also crazy delivery schedules.\"\u003cbr/\u003eWith this design, Real Steel's Noisy Boy robot, Legacy Effects earned an Academy Award nomination for their work on the 2011 robo-smash sci-fi tale.\u003cbr/\u003eDown to the red puppet arms and hydraulically-controlled head and neck, almost every part of this design features the influence of 3D printing technology.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I actually see this technology everywhere in the entertainment industry. Early conceptual designs to show big studios, where the film is going, what the final look could be and things like that. It's a perfect process from the creation, all the way through and into the final,\" says Lopes.\u003cbr/\u003eAs 3D printing technology invades our big screens it's also taking over our museums.\u003cbr/\u003eThis 3D printed Tyrannosaurus Rex, created by French designers Crea Zaurus 3D, was made using a digital scan from a real dinosaur skull and is destined to be displayed as an educational tool in museums.\u003cbr/\u003eJust as 3D printing technology is making its way into museums, it's also appearing in art galleries.\u003cbr/\u003eThis 3D printed sculpture - named  'Quixotic Divinity' - was created by American artist and sculptor Joshua Harker.\u003cbr/\u003eInspired by traditional Native American Indian, Latin and African headresses and masks, this piece is intended to celebrate the symbolism and ceremony of human adornment.\u003cbr/\u003eTaking more than two hours of design time, this piece was built using a large EOS SLS 3D printer.\u003cbr/\u003eHaving made his name using 3D printing technology in his art, Harker says he continues to be inspired by the technology:  \"Absolutely it's a tool.
