Hingis joins Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo, blues singer Aretha Franklin and actor Omar...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eSpanish/Eng/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eMartina Hingis, the world's top ranked women's tennis player, has paid a visit to some of Colombia's most under privileged children. \u003cbr/\u003eHingis joins Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo, blues singer Aretha Franklin and actor Omar Sharif, in serving as ambassadors for a U-N campaign aimed at highlighting poverty's devastating impact on children.\u003cbr/\u003ePoverty worldwide kills a child every three seconds, according to United Nations figures.\u003cbr/\u003eMartina Hingis toured La Florida shantytown in the Colombian capital Bogota on Thursday, during a U-N -sponsored visit aimed at drawing attention to the plight of street children around the world.\u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of children gathered to greet Hingis as she went on a walkabout around the town.\u003cbr/\u003eThose lucky enough to get close to the champion, got her autograph.\u003cbr/\u003eAt a welcome ceremony in front of the local school, the tennis star was presented with bouquets of flowers from local children.\u003cbr/\u003eLocal children treated her to a well rehearsed performance of local songs and dance. \u003cbr/\u003eMost of these children will never get to play tennis, often considered a sport for the privileged few.\u003cbr/\u003eBut even here, Hingis' rank as world champion captured the children's imagination.  \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Spanish)\u003cbr/\u003e\" We are all very happy that she is here.
