But a shocking number of those ads weren't commissioned by the candidates themselves - or for that matter, the parties they represent.  The AP takes a look at the record-setting outside spending in the 2010 election cycle. \u003cbr/\u003eIn the seven weeks since Labor Day, special interest groups - most sharply partisan - have spent around 200-million-dollars trying to influence voters in tight congressional races nationwide. \u003cbr/\u003eIf you look at the 20-10 political season as a whole, that number shoots up to more than 400-million. \u003cbr/\u003eEven before Election Day, that amount exceeds the outside spending in the 2008 PRESIDENTIAL year.  And it's at least SIX TIMES more than what interest groups spent in the last midterm cycle.\u003cbr/\u003e(SOT: Sharon Theimer, AP)\u003cbr/\u003e\"Voters are being bombarded with special interest ads across the country in every single state, in races all up and down the ticket from US Senate and House to governor all the way down. In one case even a local sewage board.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBut while these groups are telling voters who to elect -- and who to kick out -- what they're NOT often telling the public is what interests they represent and where their money is coming from.\u003cbr/\u003e(SOT: Bill Allison, Sunlight Foundation)\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think one of the big problems is, you have all these groups like Americans for Prosperity, Americans for Working Families and Americans for Change and all these kind of very very vague names and you have no idea, is it an oil company behind it, is it a union?   I think if you're a member of the public and you're trying to evaluate the message, it's very hard to understand who these groups are and where they're coming from.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe record-setting spending spree was made possible in part by a Supreme Court ruling earlier this year that freed corporations, interest groups and individuals to spend unlimited sums of money as long as they aren't coordinated with the candidates, themselves.\u003cbr/\u003e(SOT: Bill Allison, Sunlight Foundation)\u003cbr/\u003e\"Suddenly these groups that used to have to give money very indirectly, it was very expensive to do it, can just flood these organizations that run these negative ads... and much of it not disclosed.\"\u003cbr/\u003eConservative groups are dominating the outside spending wars this cycle, shelling out tens of millions more than their liberal counterparts in an attempt to knock out the most vulnerable incumbents. \u003cbr/\u003eTopping the list of races receiving the largest influx of special interest money:  the Senate races in Colorado, Nevada, Illinois, Washington state and California  All of those - except California - are considered \"toss-up\" contests.\u003cbr/\u003eIn these final days before next Tuesday's elections, Democratic-allied groups have been pouring money in, as well, hoping to balance the GOP effort... or at least mitigate the
