Every morning fresh heaps of stinking rubbish appear for the rag pickers to sort. \u003cbr/\u003eKathmandu is running out of places to put its trash.  \u003cbr/\u003eIt won't be long before public health is hit as badly as aesthetics.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"There is a lot of different kinds of gases coming out of the atmosphere, which are very unhealthy for the citizens living over here and also the smell is very bad.\u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION:  Bharat Basnet, travel agent and environmentalist\u003cbr/\u003eThis temple complex is Nepal's most important Hindu site.\u003cbr/\u003eSacred, yes, but that hasn't stopped the authorities from dumping garbage just up stream after the city's landfill site filled up.\u003cbr/\u003eSo scarce is land in the crowded Kathmandu valley that even the banks of the sacred river can be considered a garbage dump, but local protests here soon put a stop to the dumping of rubbish.  \u003cbr/\u003eIt's clear that Kathmandu is going to have to find a more creative solution to it's waste problem.\u003cbr/\u003eOne example turning a tip into a temple.\u003cbr/\u003eCarved stone images of the God Ganesha are placed on street corners where locals dump their trash. \u003cbr/\u003eThey stop once the God arrives, but that is far from a long-term answer.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe key to this problem is in politics, not religion.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Hindu)\u003cbr/\u003e\"This could be easily solved.
