forensic officials with their investigation.\u003cbr/\u003eThe blaze at the Kiss club early Sunday left at least 235 people dead.\u003cbr/\u003ePolice could be seen preparing the building, using a generator to provide light inside before the witnesses were led in wearing protective masks and gloves.\u003cbr/\u003eAt a news conference, police officials confirmed that the fire started in an area where pyrotechnics were used.\u003cbr/\u003eForensic expert Fernando Kruel de Lemos also said that, according to all accounts, the sole fire extinguisher was not working.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Once the smoke filled the entire venue, from the information we have been given, you couldn't see anything, it was impossible to see any sort of light,\" he added.\u003cbr/\u003ePolice investigating the blaze have said it likely started when a country music band performing at the nightclub lit a flare, which ignited flammable soundproofing foam on the ceiling.\u003cbr/\u003eThat initial error was compounded by the near-total lack of emergency infrastructure such as a fire alarms or sprinkler systems, police have said.\u003cbr/\u003eSurvivor Maria de Fatima Do Nascimento described the same situation from a hospital in Santa Maria.\u003cbr/\u003e\"What happened was that people were running everywhere and it went dark, there wasn't any light to be able to get outside,\" she said.\u003cbr/\u003eDo Nascimento suffered minor injuries in the fire and still has a bandage over a wound on her neck and scratches on her arms.\u003cbr/\u003eThe number of injured climbed to 143 Wednesday after 22 people were admitted to hospitals with respiratory problems after having escaped the club apparently unharmed. \u003cbr/\u003eThe blaze also claimed another life late on Tuesday, raising the death toll to 235, as a 21-year-old man with burns covering 70 percent of his body succumbed to his wounds. \u003cbr/\u003eThe man's older brother was also killed in the fire and buried on
