His semen had been put in deep-freeze storage in 1961, and that was before antibiotics were invented and before B-S-E and any of those other complaints had ever emerged. And so we know that his semen was absolutely clear of any of those problems.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: George Booker, cattle breeder\u003cbr/\u003eUsing liquid nitrogen, George Booker went back to the future and brought Mr. Frosty's genes back from the dead. \u003cbr/\u003eFor almost 40 years, the semen that produced him was kept frozen at absolute zero: minus 196 degrees centigrade. \u003cbr/\u003eThen a cow was inseminated with the preserved semen, with the results remaining unknown.\u003cbr/\u003eFor Booker, this was a big gamble, since nobody knew if using semen this old would work. \u003cbr/\u003eBut luckily for Booker, it did.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English) \u003cbr/\u003e\"These were vials. It's a glass vial from 1950. This is the vial that Mr. Frosty was in for 37 years, deep frozen.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: George Booker, cattle breeder\u003cbr/\u003eLike so many of their cattle, Britain's beef farmers have also had their livelihoods slaughtered by B-S-E and the economic fallout from the disease.\u003cbr/\u003eThe highest quality bulls were on display at this recent agricultural show in central England - but they were fetching a fraction of their former prices. \u003cbr/\u003eFarming experts would love to believe Mr. Frosty is the answer to all their problems - but they're still cautious.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE:  (English) \u003cbr/\u003e\"The semen from Mr. Frosty is from a bull that was bred perhaps 40 years ago, and he's probably not going to be as genetically superior as animals that we have nowadays.
