one of the most highly prized volumes in children's literature.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's expected to fetch up to 2 (m) million U-S dollars.\u003cbr/\u003eDespite being the focus of radical reinterpretation over the years, the Alice stories of Lewis Carroll have never lost their intense appeal for children.\u003cbr/\u003eA copy of the rare first edition of the original story, personally illustrated by the author, is expected to fetch 1.5 to 2 (m) million U-S dollars when it goes on sale in New York this week.\u003cbr/\u003eLewis Carroll's cherished novel about Alice and her unusual friends may break the commercial record for literature written in the last two centuries.\u003cbr/\u003eThe book is Carroll's own working copy that he used to prepare the text for a simplified version for younger children.\u003cbr/\u003eThe text is marked to indicate which characters and episodes should appear in the new version.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"The book itself is a rarity -
