Staff of the securities company working at computer terminals\u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of demonstrators converged on Singapore's Embassy in Bangkok on Thursday to protest against the sale of the communications giant Shin Corporation to the Singaporean government investment arm Temasek Holdings.\u003cbr/\u003eActivists have been holding daily rallies calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, in part because of the sale.\u003cbr/\u003eThe movement to force Thaksin to resign swelled last month after his family sold its controlling stake in the company to Temasek, netting a tax-free 1.9 (b) billion US dollars.\u003cbr/\u003eThaksin's detractors have long accused the prime minister of corruption and abuse of power but gained a wider following after the high-profile Shin Corporation deal. \u003cbr/\u003eCritics allege the sale involved insider trading and tax dodges and complain that key national assets, such as the country's communications satellites, are now in the hands of a foreign government.\u003cbr/\u003eThursday's protesters marched to the Singapore Embassy, threatening to boycott products from the island republic if the Singapore government fails to halt the sale.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter meeting with demonstration leaders, the Embassy issued a statement saying that the deal would still go through.\u003cbr/\u003eThe demonstrators planned to march on the Stock Exchange of Thailand later on Thursday, the last day of a tender offer linked to the deal.\u003cbr/\u003eShin Corp's stock has plunged this week over the uncertainty of the sale and the Thai stock market fell by two percent on Wednesday as the political crisis showed little sign of abating.\u003cbr/\u003eThaksin, who has been accused of widespread abuse of power and corruption, has repeatedly said he will not bow to anti-government protesters but has said he was willing to sit down with his critics.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Prime Minister dissolved parliament last month and called for snap election April 2 in hopes of defusing criticism against him. \u003cbr/\u003eHe has also offered to resign if his party fails to secure more than half the votes in the election.\u003cbr/\u003eOpposition parties say they will boycott the polls, which Thaksin would almost certainly win because of his widespread support in rural areas.\u003cbr/\u003eThaksin was overwhelmingly re-elected to a second term last year when his party won 377 of the 500 seats in the House of Representatives. \u003cbr/\u003eHis main defence against critics is that he enjoys a mandate endorsed by 19 (m) million voters.\u003cbr/\u003eThe demonstrations have had a significant impact on the share price of Shin Corp. On Wednesday it was down eight percent at one point. \u003cbr/\u003eOn Thursday the decline continued though less dramatically. \u003cbr/\u003eInvestors are worried that the Temasek deal may yet unravel, and have been selling their shares. \u003cbr/\u003eAnalysts say the political situation in Thailand could cause long-term problems for the Shin companies.\u003cbr/\u003eBut no one is
