central New Delhi on Thursday, to draw attention to the wastage of water in the rearing of farm animals for food. \u003cbr/\u003eThe man took a shower behind a shower curtain that read: \"1 Kg of meat equals 1 year of showers\", as onlookers gaped and traffic crawled by.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to PETA, a vegan diet requires only 300 gallons of water per day to produce, while a meat-based diet requires more than 4-thousand gallons of water per day.  \u003cbr/\u003ePETA says irrigating crops raised for farm animals, providing drinking water for billions of animals each year and cleaning the filth from farms, trucks and slaughter houses places a huge strain on the water supply. \u003cbr/\u003ePETA campaign coordinator Bhuvaneshwari Gupta, present at Thursdays event, summed up the organisation's stance by saying of the meat industry: \"It's a big strain that we are putting on our environmental resources and natural resources, and going vegan is the best that one can do personally to save the environment.\"\u003cbr/\u003ePETA organised the event as part of the build up to World Environment Day (WED), which falls on 5 June, to appeal to people to turn vegan in order to save the environment. \u003cbr/\u003eWED is an annual event organised by the United Nations Environment Programme since 1972, which according to their website \"is able to personalise environmental issues and enable everyone to realise not only their responsibility, but also their power to become agents for change in support of sustainable and equitable
