who is subject to a travel ban - says this will continue until his confiscated passport is returned.\u003cbr/\u003eAi is one of the world's most famous artists, celebrated abroad with exhibitions from Tokyo to London.\u003cbr/\u003eHe designed the striking Bird's Nest stadium for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.\u003cbr/\u003eBut he's irked authorities at home by using his art and online profile to draw attention to injustices in China and to push for greater transparency.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's wall paper work, depicting flowers and a large text, protesting the Chinese government's confiscation of Ai Weiwei's travel documents,\" says Art Cologne Director, Daniel Hug.\u003cbr/\u003e\"With the hopes that he will receive his travel documents - passport - soon.\"\u003cbr/\u003eOn 3 April 2014, the world's largest solo exhibition of Ai Weiwei opened in Germany at the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Hug, Art Cologne covers a vast amount of the art world.\u003cbr/\u003e\"About one quarter of the gallery is presented at the Art Cologne are young galleries or galleries with a very young contemporary programme,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e\"So, we pretty much cover the last hundred years, from the early modern avant-garde and the way to the most recent cutting edge contemporary art.\"\u003cbr/\u003eOne international gallery showing off their art work is New York and London-based David Zwirner.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's their third consecutive appearance at the show and they've brought a selection of gallery artists including many from Germany.\u003cbr/\u003eThey're exhibiting art by German artist Martin Kippenberger as well as Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.\u003cbr/\u003eThis piece by German Neo Rauch - titled \"Brandung\" - is valued at $1.5 million USD.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Hug, Germany's art market takes some beating, particularly in Europe.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I would say in Europe, Germany is the strongest art market,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I base that on the number of collections, private collections, the number of institutions, the number of galleries that are active. I mean, it's very comparable to the United States, in that sense.\"\u003cbr/\u003eElsewhere at Art Cologne, there's famous names such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.\u003cbr/\u003eThis piece by Warhol - named \"Princess Caroline of Monaco\" - is valued at around 109,000 USD.\u003cbr/\u003eArtworks from Lichtenstein's \"Brushstroke\" series are also on display.\u003cbr/\u003eAt Art Cologne, collectors aren't just encouraged to enjoy these works of art they can also take some home.\u003cbr/\u003eHug says it's not just about the money, it's also about the love of art.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I don't think art is just an investment, I think it's much more,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It has cultural value.
