Concept cars were once considered almost science fiction, but now their technological innovations are truly...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eCar manufacturers are seeking to dazzle with their visions of the future at the International Automobile Festival in Paris. \u003cbr/\u003eConcept cars were once considered almost science fiction, but now their technological innovations are truly shaping the future of vehicle design. \u003cbr/\u003eIs this the car of the future ?\u003cbr/\u003eFrench car-maker Renault certainly thinks so, they're presenting their concept car Eolab at the 30th edition of the International Automobile Festival.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's one of twenty-five concept cars and production models on show as part of the event in Paris.\u003cbr/\u003eThe top trends here are connectivity, sleek design and fuel-efficiency. \u003cbr/\u003eRenault predict that the Eolab will consume only one litre (approx. 0.2 gallons) of petrol per 100 kilometres (62 miles).\u003cbr/\u003eIn order to achieve that goal Renault used lightest material available: aluminum, magnesium and composites.\u003cbr/\u003eIt boasts ailerons or spoilers at the rear of the vehicle, that should reduce drag coefficient in addition to three speed gearbox, three cylinder 75 horse power petrol engine and one electrical engine.\u003cbr/\u003eAileron means 'little wing' in French, and its addition Renault say will improve speed and fuel consumption. \u003cbr/\u003e\"People from the high-tech and from all that smartphone application industries you find on the Internet, were not familiar with the automobile industry (until now) and now they collaborate while keeping their different cultures and languages. I would say that that brings more complexity (to the automobile industry) but in reality it is just about a wider collaboration in order to manage a complex problem and bring its own expertise. As a designer, I find that as a great opportunity to reinvent the car of the 21st century,\" says Anne Asensio, car design consultant for Dassault Systems. \u003cbr/\u003eAsensio believes cars of the future cannot avoid the fact that drivers are extremely connected.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Today, a connected car is promising us zero accidentsï¿½ by communicating with the infrastructure or by taking control of the vehicleï¿½ (for example) in situations where the cognitive resources of a driver are not so needed, like while driving in traffic jams. That will completely change the way we will live the automobile experience.\"\u003cbr/\u003eElsewhere in the exhibtion, German car makers BMW are showcasing a two-seater roadster concept car full of technological innovations. \u003cbr/\u003eThe BMW Vision ConnectedDrive concept claims to offer connectivity, infotainment and safety features to enhance the driver's experience. \u003cbr/\u003eMercedes-Benz are showing off the AMG GT, first unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October 2014. \u003cbr/\u003eThe bright yellow sports car from Mercedes' performance division promises speed.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's also just the second sports car developed entirely in-house by AMG, which aims to compete in the same class as the Porsche 911 and the Jaguar F-Type.\u003cbr/\u003eAn arched roof line and frameless doors, matched with sculpted tapering side walls add to the sense of speed the car makers intend to convey.\u003cbr/\u003eThe vehicle boasts an AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine and 7-speed dual clutch transmission which delivers 510 horsepower and a zero-to-60 time clocked at 3.7 seconds. \u003cbr/\u003eAMG says it's the world's first sports car engine with the turbos inside the V of the engine, which makes for a more compact engine and improves throttle response and fuel economy, delivering 30 miles (48 kilometres) per gallon (approx. 4.5 litres), according to the manufacturers. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We are really at the border where the car becomes digital, where the classical industry - the car industry - melts together with consumer electronics, with digital technology and I think this is very interesting and inspiring moment in time and we are here to shape the future,\" says Gorden Wagener, Mercedes-Benz chief designer.\u003cbr/\u003eThe striking looking Q80, has been conceived by the designers at Infiniti, a luxury brand owned by Nissan.\u003cbr/\u003eThe four-door fastback is five metres long and two metres wide and comes with a 3-litre turbo V6 engine, capable of producing 550-horse power. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Infinti and Jaguar's concept the XE offering were also on display at the Paris Motorshow 2014. \u003cbr/\u003eAt the top of the range, the 'XE S' model will boast a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine, going from 0 to 60 miles-per-hour (96.56 km/h) in 4.9 seconds.\u003cbr/\u003eOther less powerful models will be powered by efficient 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to Jaguar, the XE will boast highly competitive fuel economy, emissions, insurance ratings, service intervals and residuals values.\u003cbr/\u003eThe British car manufacturers are also keen to stress the vehicle's aluminium-intensive shell.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's made from a high-strength aluminium alloy - named RC5754 - which is made from recycled material.\u003cbr/\u003eIt contains only a small quantity of primary material.\u003cbr/\u003eThey claim it's the first car in the world to use the alloy.\u003cbr/\u003eJaguar car designer, Ian Callum, says designing vehicles in the 21st Century presents new challenges. \u003cbr/\u003e\"You know, when people were designing cars in the 50s, they basically just styled the shape over a chassis and there was no real challenge, just a shapeï¿½ some of them were very beautiful. But nowadays what you have to do is build in so much into the car and package it, but technology can come to your rescue. That's the good thing. For instance, the pedestrian safety in this car (showing at Jaguar XE, behind him)ï¿½ we have the airbags on the bonnet; that's technology,\" he says. \u003cbr/\u003e\"You know, you look at an iPhone and you think 'Wow, it's a great piece of design'.
