But get ready for La Nina.\u003cbr/\u003eThe latest data from the U-S space agency NASA shows dramatic drops in water temperatures of the Pacific Ocean.\u003cbr/\u003eBut El Nino's end in the Pacific, they say, is giving way to La Nina in the Atlantic, and that could have just as big an impact on weather as El Nino did.\u003cbr/\u003eThis computer-enhanced image produced by NASA shows the advance of El Nino across several months. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's a measure of the warming of the Pacific Ocean's waters to record levels during late 1997 and into 1998. \u003cbr/\u003eBut what scientists are seeing now is the reverse: a cooling of those same waters.\u003cbr/\u003eDramatic drops in the last month, they say, are a sure sign that El Nino is over. \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English) \u003cbr/\u003e\"And just within the last couple of months those cold water temperatures have broken through to the surface of the ocean, and now the water temperature at the surface is about five degrees colder than normal.\" \u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Antonio Busalacchi, NASA research oceanographer.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's a big turnaround from the amazing rise in temperatures of the tropical Pacific Ocean triggered by El Nino. \u003cbr/\u003eThe most dramatic evidence occurs along the Earth's equator, in areas like the Galapagos Islands off the South American coast, where scientists saw the dramatic rise in ocean water temperatures around the Islands.\u003cbr/\u003eWith El Nino gone, La Nina will have her own impact on weather patterns across the Western Hemisphere. \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English) \u003cbr/\u003e\"If it continues through the summer we may expect drier conditions in the midwest, a greater incidence of hurricanes along the Eastern seaboard; and then going into the winter time we'll be looking to see wetter conditions in the northwest, drier conditions in the southeast. That suppressed effect is no longer there.
