deployment, which will be followed within months by a UN peacekeeping force.\u003cbr/\u003eWest African leaders promised the force will stop the fighting in Liberia, where two months of rebel sieges on\u003cbr/\u003ethe capital has left the city wracked by disease and desperately short of food and water.\u003cbr/\u003ePresident Charles Taylor is blamed for Liberia's 14-year-long conflict that has killed more than 100,000 people, and is accused of arming insurgents in other conflicts embroiling West Africa.\u003cbr/\u003eUnder pressure from fellow West African leaders and the United States, Taylor has agreed to cede power on August the 11th and exile himself to Nigeria.\u003cbr/\u003e0002 The first West African forces arriving in Liberia.\u003cbr/\u003eNigerian soldiers in camouflage and years of carnage and oversee the departure of warlord-turned-president Charles Taylor.\u003cbr/\u003eCommanders say troops have come with a mandate that allows them to fire to protect themselves and civilians.\u003cbr/\u003eFor Liberians this was the moment they have been waiting for.\u003cbr/\u003eJubilation as excited crowds gathered at the airport to give the troops a warm
