His world came crashing down in January of 1990 when an FBI sting operation caught him smoking crack cocaine.\u003cbr/\u003eHe was removed from office as mayor, was tried, convicted, and served six months in a local prison.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Barry has fought a long road back. And now enjoys the favour of African American leaders - including Jesse Jackson.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: Marion Barry's circumstance has an interesting ring to people because his sense of overcoming is a sense of hope, cause everybody's overcoming something or trying to...recovering from something.
