\u003cbr/\u003eIn a disused brewery medical workers have been treating locals. \u003cbr/\u003eBut with no anaesthetics or drugs all they can do is dress wounds and stand by as gangrene takes hold of the worst cases. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Red Cross are in the area and on Friday came to assess the situation at the makeshift hospital after speaking to a rebel general who allowed them access to areas under LURD control. \u003cbr/\u003eThey delivered some supplies to the hospital, but many of those being treated by doctors have been left too long without proper medicines to stand much hope of full recovery.  \u003cbr/\u003eAs international aid groups pressed rebels to open humanitarian corridors on Friday, hunger deepened on the government side of Liberia's war-divided capital. \u003cbr/\u003eInsurgents raced heavy weapons and armed men along front lines as fighting flared elsewhere in the West African nation.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the injured remain woefully short of essential medical help. \u003cbr/\u003eOn the political front President Charles Taylor on Friday reiterated his intention to stand down early next week but some rebel leaders remain sceptical that the man who
