It is serious now\", he says.  \u003cbr/\u003eEven though more and more Russians are getting married, it seems to some that it has never been so difficult to find your ideal partner.\u003cbr/\u003eIn spite of the Internet and numerous social networking sites, people still find themselves alone. \u003cbr/\u003eMany resort to the tried and tested means of meeting new friends.\u003cbr/\u003eMarriage and dating agencies have been around for some time, but speed dating has only recently taken off in Russia.\u003cbr/\u003eAlexey Raksha, 31, a computer equipment wholesale trader, is a regular at various parties. \u003cbr/\u003eAlthough he regularly meets nice girls, he is still not married. \u003cbr/\u003eThis time he decided to try speed dating party.  \u003cbr/\u003eAlexey says he isn''t looking for love, but does enjoy the adventure of meeting new people.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Sometimes it is impossible to describe it (attraction) with words, it is like spark flying between two people. Although every month and every week I meet a great number of people, including women, such a spark occurs very rarely,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003eThe speed dating party is organised by Ekaterina Borovleva and her friend Alla, both 25 and unmarried. \u003cbr/\u003eThey started the parties five months ago, and have kept the numbers small - each man and woman has ten dates during the two hour party.  \u003cbr/\u003eEkaterina and Alla are sure they have hit upon a recipe for love, and they both believe in attraction within the first 20-30 seconds of meeting someone. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd so speed dating is the perfect way to find romance, they say.  \u003cbr/\u003eEach participant moves from table to table on a series of short \"dates\", each lasting only seven minutes.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen the time is up, the organiser signals the participants to change places and move on to the next date.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the end of the party, people submit a list of those who they would like to see again. \u003cbr/\u003eThe cost of the evening is 1,500 rubles or $50. \u003cbr/\u003eThat''s not an insignificant sum but a lot cheaper than ten normal dates, says Ekaterina. \u003cbr/\u003eShe says that most of the women who come to the parties are between the age of 18 and 25 and deep down they are looking for love.  \u003cbr/\u003e\"We all know that as soon as a woman tells a man that she wants to get married he immediately turns 180 degrees away from her. One can see what a person is like indeed. Of course, one doesn''t see everything, but anyway it is better than chatting (through internet) when one doesn''t see what a person is like, whether he tells truth,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003eSpeed dating is perhaps a sign of the world we live in, where everything is immediate and without time for true reflection.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd Russians are seemingly rushing to the altar. \u003cbr/\u003eDespite the financial crisis, which hit Russians hard last year, more and more people decided to get married. \u003cbr/\u003eMany couples even had to queue all night outside the registry office to get the date of their choice. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to official statistics the number of marriages in 2009 increased by 10 per cent compared to 2008, while divorces decreased by 1.5 per cent.   \u003cbr/\u003eAnd marriage often leads to babies.\u003cbr/\u003eLast year saw a mini baby boom in Russia, the first annual population increase since 1995. \u003cbr/\u003eIn 2008,1.714 million births were recorded.  \u003cbr/\u003eTatiana Kushkina, Department Head in one of the oldest Moscow Maternity Hospitals, has been working here for 30 years. \u003cbr/\u003eShe says that for the last three years the birth rate in Moscow has increased from 94 and 96 thousand births in 2007 and 2008 to around 100 thousand births in 2009. \u003cbr/\u003eShe adds that the average age of women who give birth for the first time is now around 30, like in the West.  \u003cbr/\u003e\"In the last two years, the number of women who give birth to their second, third and even fifth and sixth baby has noticeably increased. This fact makes us happy. And there are more Russian women among those who recently gave birth if we compare with previous years. So, I think there is something that stimulates them to have children. Of course, there are more middle-aged women who give birth,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003eThe baby boom will please President Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin, who, for the past several years, have offered women various incentives to try to improve the country''s poor birth rate.   \u003cbr/\u003eSince 2006, large maternity packages with paid maternity leave for up to 18 months, and full salary compensation for four months, have been offered. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd women who have a second child get a certificate worth $10,000 for housing and education.  \u003cbr/\u003eThese measures have certainly had an effect on the latest peak, but they are not the only reason for Russian women wanting to have children.  \u003cbr/\u003eNatalya Fedorova, 30, who is a financial manager, decided to have a baby for a traditional reason - love. \u003cbr/\u003eShe and her husband have been together for five years and six-day old Sonia is their first child.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Well, recently, I think, (women) have started to give birth more often because they are inspired.
