also lose weight.\u003cbr/\u003eAustralian researchers are testing a new drug to help type 2 diabetes sufferers.\u003cbr/\u003eFrank Thorne couldn't get his diabetes under control using standard medications.\u003cbr/\u003eHe volunteered for a trial at Sydney's Royal Albert hospital where patients were either given new diabetes drugs called GLP1 Agonists, or a placebo.\u003cbr/\u003eIn type 2 diabetes the pancreas doesn't create enough insulin, traditional medicines work by either allowing less sugar into the blood stream or by helping the body move sugar to the blood more efficiently.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to endocrinologist Stephen Twigg, the new drug helps the pancreas to produce insulin.\u003cbr/\u003eBut, unlike similar medicines on the market, the new medicine also helps patients lose weight, or at the very least not pile on the pounds.\u003cbr/\u003eAs obesity is a common factor among type-2 diabetics, the weight control element is an important.\u003cbr/\u003eThorne decided to join the study after becoming a Grandfather.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said the results were impressive, with is blood sugar levels almost halved.\u003cbr/\u003eIn addition Thorne said he immediately felt much better.\u003cbr/\u003eThe medication has been approved for use in America but needs more tests before Australia can use it.\u003cbr/\u003eBut health
