takes to make sure the economy remains strong.\u003cbr/\u003ePresident Bush welcomed as a positive development the new requirement for American companies to clean up the state of their books.\u003cbr/\u003eBy the close of business Wednesday corporate executives of nearly 700 publicly traded companies in the U-S had to swear to the accuracy of their recent financial reports.\u003cbr/\u003eSeveral companies have already restated their finances and many of the nation's biggest corporations are waiting until the last minute to comply with a new government
