scientists.\u003cbr/\u003eThe researchers say some of these \"all -natural\" remedies contain prescription drugs, which can put people with high blood pressure at risk of heart attacks or strokes.\u003cbr/\u003eEmails and websites advertising pills claiming to solve erectile dysfunctions are common. \u003cbr/\u003eThese \"all-natural\" products with names like Stamina-RX and Vigor-25 promise increased libido and sexual performance. \u003cbr/\u003eHowever scientist are now finding that some of these drugs work because they contain the same drugs used in prescription remedies.  \u003cbr/\u003eSales of herbal sex pills are booming in the United States. \u003cbr/\u003eSince 2001, sales of supplements marketed as natural sexual enhancers have risen $100 million (68.6 million), to $398 million (273 million) last year, including herbal mixtures, according to estimates by Nutrition Business Journal.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever researchers in the US are concerned about the quality of some of these pills.\u003cbr/\u003eJana Hildreth and her colleagues are testing herbal supplements for signs of hidden dangers. \u003cbr/\u003eHildreth, a research chemist, says people with high blood pressure are risking their life using these kinds of drugs.\u003cbr/\u003eAn Associated Press investigation shows that spiked herbal impotency pills are emerging as a major public health concern in the United States, a concern that US health officials and the supplement industry are struggling to address. \u003cbr/\u003eAt risk are the more than five-million American men taking nitrates, a class of drugs used to treat high blood pressure and heart disease. \u003cbr/\u003eHealth experts say patients who unknowingly mix the spiked supplements with nitrate medications are at risk of a stroke or heart attack. \u003cbr/\u003eIndependent labs report that an overwhelming percentage of supposedly all-natural pills they tested were drug laced, some with doses twice that of the prescription medicine they're supposed to replace. \u003cbr/\u003eHildreth says because the drugs are made illegally, dosages often vary, putting those who use them in danger.\u003cbr/\u003eResearchers say legitimate herbal mixtures can take weeks to produce results.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's the products pushed for the quick fix, they say, that are often the problem. \u003cbr/\u003eDr Ira Sharlip is a Urologist.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says he advises his patients against using the drugs because they are unsafe.\u003cbr/\u003eSome medical experts say the best advice when using any of the herbal impotency products is buyer beware.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is trying to deal with the tainted supplements, issuing warnings on products with names like Stamina-RX and Spontane ES.\u003cbr/\u003eAn industry trade group says spiked products are just a small percentage of the total dietary supplement market. \u003cbr/\u003eSteve Mister is the Chief Executive Officer for the Council for Responsible Nutrition.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says consumers need to ask themselves serious questions about what they put into their bodies.\u003cbr/\u003eMister also says consumers should think about the reputation of the companies producing the drugs.\u003cbr/\u003eNonetheless, easy access on the internet, and the growing demand, is making it tough to track sex pill products that could harm or kill.\u003cbr/\u003eSome herbal labels warn off users with heart or blood-pressure problems if they have taken their medicine within six hours; some doctors say 24 hours or more would be safer.\u003cbr/\u003eSpiked pills have turned up in Thailand, Taiwan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and the United States, according to testing done by Pfizer Inc., the New York-based pharmaceutical giant that developed Viagra. \u003cbr/\u003eThe company says that 69 percent of 3,400 supplements it purchased in China contained sildenafil citrate, the main ingredient in Viagra. \u003cbr/\u003eWhile herbal alternatives often contain exact copies of the patented drugs, some makers tweak the molecules to keep the effect of the original pharmaceutical while avoiding the scrutiny of the FDA and outside testing labs.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile no deaths have been reported, the AP found records of emergency room visits attributed to all-natural sex pills in
