Both men walk away together\u003cbr/\u003eThe US and Jordan reiterated their belief that elections in Iraq could be held as planned if the security situation can be bought under control.\u003cbr/\u003eUS Secretary of State Colin Powell and his Jordanian counterpart, Marwan Jamil Al-Muasher, made the remarks at a joint news conference at  the State Department on Wednesday.\u003cbr/\u003eTheir meeting comes after Jordan's King Abdullah II comments voicing profound pessimism at the possibility of the elections in Iraq being fair.\u003cbr/\u003eAbdullah, who met with President Jacques Chirac in Paris on Tuesday, told the daily Le Figaro that \"it seems impossible to organise indisputable elections in the chaos of Iraq today,\" but he noted that Iraqi interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi is determined to go ahead with the vote, scheduled for late January.\u003cbr/\u003eUS and Iraqi officials have insisted that the election be held on time, although Defence Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld has acknowledged that some areas may not be able to vote because of the escalating violence.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Jordanian monarch underlined his country's support for Allawi. \u003cbr/\u003eHowever, the king was clear about his misgivings. \"the situation is very, very difficult and in the immediate (future) I don't see any chance of improvement,\" he
