Various of Canadian ISAF soldiers casting votes\u003cbr/\u003eCanadian troops in the international security force in Afghanistan, which is gearing up for presidential elections in a few months, cast ballots Wednesday for their own federal elections back home.\u003cbr/\u003eLt. Gen. Rick Hillier, commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), said before casting his ballot that it was especially important to exercise his right to vote at the same time the NATO-run force works to make conditions secure for the Afghan ballot.\u003cbr/\u003eThe ISAF troops are voting by post for the June 28 election, which so far has the Liberals, led by Prime Minister Paul Martin, in a virtual tie with the Conservatives, headed by Stephen Harper.\u003cbr/\u003eBack in Afghanistan, President Hamid Karzai, who was elected by vote of a loya jirga (grand council) is running for the presidency in a September election against a number of challengers.\u003cbr/\u003eThe run-up to the country's first post-Taliban vote has not been without problems, however, with difficulties registering voters in violence-plagued regions and attacks aimed at election workers.\u003cbr/\u003eStill, the U.S. military said Monday that the September vote can go ahead, and that
